Former IAS officer Shriniwas Patil appointed Governor of Sikkim

New Delhi, July 3, 2013(Agencies): The President has appointed Mr Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil, a former member of the Lok Sabha, as the new Governor of Sikkim.

A press communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said the appointment would be with effect from the date he assumes office.

Mr Patil, 73, was elected to the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha from the Karad constituency in Maharashtra on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP ticket.

He completed his M.A. (Economics) and LL.B. degrees from Pune and Bombay Universitites.

He is a retired officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) (1979 batch) and had served in various posts in Maharashtra, including as Collector of Beed and Pune districts and as Deputy CEO of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.
