Under the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme-2013, taxpayers can still pay their liabilities without any penalty or interest till December end.

“People are still unaware that all services barring few in the negative list were brought under the purview of service tax last year. So, we are continuously conducting awareness programmes,” said Shashank Priya, commissioner of central excise and service tax, Patna.

“BSNL was the highest service taxpayer in Bihar this year with its payment totalling nearly Rs 16 crore followed by Idea Cellular which paid Rs 8 crore,” Priya added.

Member (service tax), Central Board of Excise and Customs and zonal in-charge of Patna Lipika Majumdar Roy Choudhary would be visiting the state capital on Wednesday and Thursday for conducting one such awareness meeting with the business class of the city and review of service tax issues. A guide on service tax would also be released on Thursday.
